Dr. Harish Cherukuri is Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science (MEES). He is also an Affiliate Faculty of the School of Data Science (SDS) and a member of the Center for TAIMing AI.  He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1994. He was a postdoctoral research associate in MEES for two years starting in 1995. 

Dr. Cherukuri became a member of the MEES faculty  in 1997. Since then he has worked on various collaborative research projects sponsored by the federal funding agencies as well as the industry.  His most recent research interests are in the application of machine learning techniques to manufacturing and materials behavior and in Digital Twins. He has graduated over 50 M.S. and Ph.D. students.  As an educator, Dr. Cherukuri teaches courses in solid mechanics and computational methods. He also served as the Chair of the MEES Department for over seven years.

Dr. Cherukuri was a Maxheim Research Fellow in 2002-2003,  a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellow to India in 2010-2011, the Harshini V. de Silva Graduate Mentor award recipient in 2011, and a CTL Faculty Fellow in 2012-2013.  In addition, he received several student-nominated awards for his teaching during the course of his career. He is a member of the ASME and SIAM.
