“Towards Real-Time Probabilistic SciML Algorithms for Digital Twins” with Dr. Tan Bui
On November 14, 2025, UNC Charlotte’s Center for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in Model Risk Management (TAIMing AI) hosted a seminar featuring Dr. Tan Bui titled “Towards Real-Time Probabilistic SciML Algorithms for Digital Twins.”
Dr. Tan Bui’s seminar focused on how digital twins serve as computational counterparts to real systems, built on physical and mathematical models that capture behavior across time and space. He explained that digital twins play a key role in enabling “what if” scenario analysis, supporting system monitoring, guiding parameter calibration to real-world data, and performing uncertainty quantification. In the talk, Dr. Bui introduced a set of real-time Scientific Deep Learning approaches designed for forward problems, inverse or calibration tasks, and UQ applications. He also presented both theoretical insights and numerical results for a range of challenging cases, including transport equations, heat flow, Burgers equation, and the Euler and Navier Stokes equations in transonic and hypersonic regimes.
