AI-Powered Healthcare: Dr. Metin Gurcan on the Future of Medicine

On January 24th, 2025, Dr. Metin Gurcan, the Senior Associate Dean for Artificial Intelligence and the founding Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, presented his seminar “AI in Medicine: Transforming Healthcare Through Innovation and Collaboration” at UNC Charlotte as part of the Center for TAIMing AI’s seminar series. 

In this seminar, Dr. Gurcan explored the innovative integration of AI in healthcare, emphasizing its role in tackling diagnostic disparities, optimizing treatment strategies, and addressing systemic challenges such as workforce shortages and health inequities. The presentation also showcased the translational impact of AI innovations developed under his leadership at the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research, illustrating pathways from groundbreaking research to practical implementation.
